Richard Long made his mark as an influential artist when he decided to walk a straight line, repeatedly, in the English countryside. This line was made from the crushed grass he created while walking with the only evidence of its existence by a single image taken in 1967. In his work Richard Long balances performance and sculpture while quietly rearranging and altering his surrounding natural landscapes. He also brings the outdoors into contrasting gallery spaces by arranging his work in lines, rectangles, circles and spirals.
